The story of my loom: I was born a minority female into a family of rigidity and perfectionism where each gain was a struggle. My community was large but also reinforced rigidity as a community value. Perfectionism and punishment infused voicelessness was standard. My story much like many others is one of triumph over trial.

The story of my warp: I have represented the complexity of who I am in body spirit and soul with a transparent, shiny, stretchy thread that is thick and strong enough but still soft and flexible. I also used a gold and several red threads as well as various shades of green beaded thread to represent my naturally passionate, fearless, curious, adventurous and tenacious sides.

The story of my weft: The colours of my weft express the many lovely moments, achievements, interests and passions that have been woven into my life, bringing me joy and filling my life with colour and sparkle. However, I tend to engage in patterns of too much patience and endurance, often putting up with things way longer than I should or working at an overwhelming pace for far too long and becoming exhausted. I am looking forward to continuing my journey in a life of balanced pacing and an abundance of lovely moments.

I loved this project. Exploring who I am and making it visibly tangible. It was

not without it’s frustrations and hesitancy. But as in every good exploration, and really in life itself, it was the doing that helped me understand what needed to be done… or in some cases undone.
