My loom, that represents the world that I came from is an old book. It’s actually an art album about sculptures from famous Russian museum of art The Hermitage. It’s published in 1960 and older than I am. It was a gift to my mom from her best friend, as I see now from the signing, but never actually knew. I remember seeing this book among many others for as long as I could remember myself. Books on bookshelves surrounded me my whole life. They are my past that still present and going into the future with me ether I want it or not. What I realized quite recently is that we give the past too much significance some times.
My warp The part of me that remains constant. My warp is of two kinds : 1 -white one is the yarn I spun from horse hair (Shetland pony and Norwegian fiord), my older daughter brought it to me from the stable where she rides and I spun it as an experiment. 2 - orange one is recycled yarn made from recycled plastic, my younger daughter brought me. I think two of my qualities are remain constant. They are resourcefulness and curiosity. I alway want to explore and try new things and I will find the way to make do with what I have around and adapt to my environment.
My weft is yarn of different kind and color that me and my daughters accumulated through years by starting different projects, some of them were finished some left abundant. I choose yarn of different color every day. I have a calendar that has color of the day on it, so I weave my days of different colors together one at a time. Every color and type of yarn brought different feelings and asked for different weaving techniques, so I tried to follow.
